How to Choose New Breast Implants

It’s a sad reality of life that very little in it is permanent—but, fortunately, we have the means to replace and repair many things, including breast implants.

Replacing breast implants can be a revitalizing time for women, many of whom get the change years after first getting implants

But, like anything else, breast implants themselves have changed. Women may be concerned about certain types of implants or simply be overwhelmed with the variety of choices now available.

Whether you want more “natural-looking” breasts, a different shape, or to get even more volume, new breast implants can help you achieve the look you desire.

Why Should I Replace My Breast Implants?

There are many reasons women in Miami may choose to replace their breast implants, such as:

  • Current implants are wrinkling, sagging, or shifting position
  • Concerns about textured implants
  • Concerns about implant material
  • A desire for smaller or larger breasts

How to Choose Your New Breast Implants

The time to replace breast implants varies for every woman. Some women may simply decide that they no longer want implants. After years of having a certain size, some people may want to change it up.

Some may want to switch from saline implants to silicone, or vice versa. Some women may have gotten textured implants, recently linked to a rare form of breast cancer, and decide they need to get a new type.

Size Matters

Women who want bigger breasts could use their breast implant replacement as an opportunity to move on to larger implants, which will immediately increase breast size.

But recent trends have leaned towards a simple, clean style with an emphasis on wellness. In this same vein, women are preferring a more conservative, natural-looking breast shape.

Some women may prefer to simply remove their implants and get their breasts back to their pre-implant shape, but smaller implants can also create the natural look women desire.

The Shape of Things

In the past, breast implants came in one shape: round.

Now, round breast implants are still used for most breast augmentations. But implant shapes have evolved to fit more women’s bodies, needs, and appearance concerns.

There are now smooth implants that move similar to breast tissue, implants that are tapered to mimic a natural breast shape, and implants with a rough texture that decrease their chances of moving.

Places, Places

Much like the stage, where your breast implants are placed can also determine what your visible results will be.

Breast implants can be placed over the chest muscle (subglandular) or under it (submuscular). Typically, placing them over the chest muscles makes breasts more prominent.

A submuscular placement typically results in firmer breasts that tend to move less than others, which makes them appealing for many women.

When Is a Good Time to Replace My Breast Implants?

Many women choose to replace their breast implants after about ten years, but some implants may last longer. The ten-year mark is by no means mandatory.

But for many women, getting their implants replaced after a decade means trends have changed. What worked before may not work now.

Women replacing their breast implants in Miami may benefit from a new shape after years of changes to their bodies and the implants themselves.

It’s important to consult with your surgeon as you choose your new implants since he will help you decide what type of implants work best for your appearance and body shape goals.

What Should I Expect When Replacing Breast Implants?

Your surgeon will first provide anesthesia before creating incisions where the old implants will be removed and the new implants are placed.

It is a very similar procedure to breast augmentation, except excess scar tissue is also drained as implants are removed. New implants may be placed at the same time or at a later date.

Breast implant replacement can take a little longer to recover from than breast augmentation; most patients take at least two weeks off work.

Exercise and other strenuous activity can be resumed after about six to eight weeks.
