DAXXIFY® is an injectable neuromodulator, recently approved by the FDA, that works much like BOTOX® Cosmetic to eliminate frown lines.
DAXXIFY® now joins more familiar brands, including Dysport®, XEOMIN®, BOTOX® Cosmetic, and Jeuveau®, to prevent the muscle contractions responsible for “dynamic” wrinkles.
While there are many similarities, you should be aware of some differences between these neuromodulators, which are explained in detail below.
Longevity of Results for BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, XEOMIN®, and DAXXIFY®
If you’ve never received treatment with a neuromodulator like BOTOX® Cosmetic, you may not know that different neurotoxins can last for varying amounts of time.
- Jeuveau® – Used strictly for cosmetic purposes, Jeuveau® is known to last between three and four months.
- XEOMIN® – XEOMIN® results have been shown to last between three and six months.
- BOTOX® Cosmetic – The most well-known option, BOTOX® Cosmetic, typically lasts three to four months.
- Dysport® – Expect results to last about three to four months with Dysport®.
- DAXXIFY® – The latest of these injectable treatments, DAXXIFY® can last six to nine months.
Every patient metabolizes neurotoxins at their own rate. Some patients may experience longer-lasting results, while others may require a repeat injectable session sooner to maintain their youthful look.
Cost of BOTOX® Cosmetic, Jeuveau®, Dysport®, XEOMIN®, and DAXXIFY®
Dosages for these neuromodulators range from 20 units to 100 units, and while generally, the higher the dosage, the more the cost, this isn’t always the case. The price of cosmetic injectables can vary considerably; it all comes down to the specific formula used and the provider’s agreement with the supplier.
Some neuromodulators require a higher dosage to deliver the same results that another offers with less.
- While Dysport® requires twice the dosage as BOTOX® Cosmetic, it is usually less expensive per unit, and results tend to last around the same amount of time.
- Jeuveau® requires the most units, with each dose containing 100 units of botulinum toxin type A. Still, this option tends to cost less than the others.
- DAXXIFY® is priced higher than its competitors, but it is also designed to last the longest.
Versatility of BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport®, Jeuveau®, XEOMIN®, and DAXXIFY®
Neuromodulators are not the same, and some work better in specific areas than others.
Frown Lines (Glabella)
Dysport®, Jeuveau®, XEOMIN®, BOTOX® Cosmetic, and DAXXIFY® are all effective at reducing, eliminating, or preventing frown lines (wrinkles that appear between the eyebrows).
Forehead Lines and Crow’s Feet
BOTOX® Cosmetic is currently the best option for treating forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet around the eyes.
If you desire treatment for frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet, you’ll need to decide if longer-lasting results in one area are worth using different brands and returning at various intervals or if you’d rather use one product for all three concerns and repeat your sessions at the same time.
If you only want to address frown lines, you can base your decision on longevity and cost alone.
Some patients even use these treatments as a preemptive measure to delay the development of dynamic lines. However, keep in mind that neuromodulators are not effective for wrinkles that develop over time due to age, sun exposure, and lifestyle habits.
These are “static” wrinkles and are best treated with dermal fillers or facial surgery.
Other Advantages of DAXXIFY®
While DAXXIFY® is being hailed as a longer-lasting neuromodulator effective for treating frown lines, this is subject to change as additional applications may be discovered after more extensive use in a variety of patients.
DAXXIFY® also offers faster results that are visible in only two days compared to other brands, which need up to a week for significant improvement to show.
