What Are the Benefits of a Mommy Makeover?
Lifted, Fuller Breasts
Pregnancy and nursing may cause your breast tissue to stretch and sag, and your breast volume may disappear. Drooping and deflated breasts can age your appearance and leave you feeling unhappy about your physique. A Mommy Makeover surgery restores youthfulness and shape to the bustline.
Your abdominal skin and muscles expand during pregnancy to accommodate your growing baby. This rapid growth may cause the abdominal muscles to separate and the skin to loosen, and while post-pregnancy diet and exercise can assist with excess abdominal fat, it cannot tighten the muscles or skin. A Mommy Makeover surgery addresses these issues and returns a smoother, tighter, and stronger abdominal contour.
Your body stores fat across your physique for energy during your pregnancy, and it is common for these fat deposits to remain following the birth of your child. Some of these fatty pockets will lessen with diet and exercise, but others may require surgical assistance. A Mommy Makeover surgery removes stubborn fat deposits that remain after your pregnancy.
Return of Your Pre-Baby Form
Many women are not prepared for the physical changes experienced by their bodies following pregnancy. A Mommy Makeover surgery not only restores their slim contours, but it also allows them to maintain their same wardrobe and improves their self-image and confidence.

What Is a Breast Lift?
A breast lift addresses breast ptosis (breast sagging). This surgical procedure tightens and secures the breast tissue and removes excess skin so that the breasts return to a higher, perkier position.
In addition to the elevation of the breasts, a breast lift surgery can reposition the nipple-areola complex, if necessary.
What Is Breast Augmentation?
A breast augmentation adds breast volume and fullness to deflated or naturally small breasts.
What Is a Tummy Tuck Surgery?
A tummy tuck surgery tightens the abdominal contour following pregnancy and childbirth. This body contouring procedure tightens or repairs separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti), removes localized pockets of fat, and trims excess, hanging skin.
The belly button may be repositioned, if necessary.
What Is Liposuction?
Liposuction removes undesirable fat that is resistant to diet and exercise. Fat can be removed from the abdomen, hips, thighs, flanks, back, arms, and under the neck using gentle suctioning.
This procedure returns slender and defined body contours following the childbearing process.
Do You Have Concerns About Your Mommy Makeover?
Mommy Makeover Recovery
Bruising, swelling, redness, and soreness will develop at your incision sites. Compression garments may be placed around these incision sites to reduce swelling, promote blood circulation, and promote comfort.
- Week 1: Your bruising, swelling, and overall discomfort will be at its highest. You should spend this time resting. You will need someone to help with all household chores, including cleaning, cooking, and childcare.
- Weeks 2-3: The bruising and swelling will start to subside, and you will begin to feel like yourself again. Most women return to desk-type jobs after two weeks, but women with more strenuous jobs may require additional time.
- Weeks 4-5: The majority of the bruising and swelling will have subsided, and you can resume light activities.
- Weeks 6-8: Women are generally cleared to resume all physical activities after this time.
Mommy Makeover Cost
Since this operation is customized to you, the total cost of your Mommy Makeover will depend on what is included in your surgery. Dr. Hochstein will discuss your surgical options during your consultation, and you will be given an accurate cost estimate during your consultation.
The price range provided is an estimate of the surgeon’s fees. That figure does not include anesthesia fees, facility fees, pre-surgical tests, or post-surgical garments.
Mommy Makeover Pain
General anesthesia will be used during your Mommy Makeover to ensure that there is no pain during or immediately after your procedure. Unfortunately, some discomfort will develop in the following hours and days—usually peaking at 48 to 72 hours.
Pain can be controlled with pain pumps that administer a numbing agent to the surgical area, cold compresses, and prescribed pain medication. Most patients choose to switch to over-the-counter pain medication after a few days.
Mommy Makeover Scars
Dr. Hochstein makes all of the incisions for your Mommy Makeover in areas that are easy to conceal with bras and underwear. Unfortunately, while these incisions are placed discreetly, there is no way to eliminate the resulting scars.
The visibility of the surgical scars will lessen with time, and they can be minimized further with laser treatments, oral medications, topical creams, and silicone strips.
Mommy Makeover Frequently Asked Questions
Am I a candidate for a Mommy Makeover?
A Mommy Makeover is performed on new or experienced mothers who wish to tighten and tone their bodies after the changes of pregnancy and childbirth. Women who can benefit from these procedures hope to:
- Elevate their breasts
- Return volume to their breasts
- Get rid of a protruding abdomen
- Reduce or eliminate stubborn fat deposits
Women interested in this combination technique should not smoke, be in good overall health, and have realistic expectations of their results.
Why should I combine my Mommy Makeover procedures?
While it is not required to combine your cosmetic procedures, many new mothers choose a Mommy Makeover to minimize the recovery period and financial costs. When these procedures are performed together, you are only required to pay for one round of anesthesia and one day of the surgical facility. Additionally, since all of your surgical sites will be healing simultaneously, your recovery will be shorter than if you had your procedures done at different times.
How soon can I undergo a Mommy Makeover after having children?
Women should wait until they are finished having children and have attempted to lose some of their baby weight. The best results are usually found with patients who are within 10 to 15 pounds of their goal weight.
If you are undergoing breast surgery, you must wait until after you are finished breastfeeding.
What are the potential risks and complications after a Mommy Makeover?
All surgical procedures come with the risk of potentially serious complications. While these are very rare, these potential complications can include:
- Negative reactions to the anesthesia
- Blood clots (deep vein thrombosis)
- Prolonged bruising and swelling
- Capsular contracture (where scar tissue contracts around a breast implant)
In addition to physical complications, potential aesthetic complications include:
- Unfavorable scarring
- Breast implant rupture
- Breast implant displacement
What if I do not need all of the procedures included in a Mommy Makeover?
This surgery is customized to you. You can choose two, three, or more procedures in your Mommy Makeover. The options are endless
Mommy Makeover surgery addresses the breast and body. Candidates who are interested in a facial cosmetic procedure will need to schedule an additional surgical appointment to undergo those improvements.
Why do I need to stop smoking before my Mommy Makeover?
In addition to the other health concerns associated with tobacco use, smoking inhibits blood flow. Proper blood circulation is essential to a safe surgery and a smooth recovery process. Patients who smoke up until their surgery day have a higher risk of complications during and after their Mommy Makeover.
Patients should quit smoking for at least four weeks before their plastic surgery and for two weeks after their treatment.
What are silicone strips?
Silicone strips are band-aid-like patches placed over the healing scar(s) to minimize their appearance. These removable and reusable patches must be worn 12 hours a day for at least three months. Patients are advised to remove these patches and rinse them off every night to maintain their ability to stick to the wound.
Patients can start applying silicone strips to their scars once the incisions have closed and started to heal.
Will insurance cover the cost of my Mommy Makeover?
Plastic surgery is elective; therefore, insurance will not cover the cost of your surgical procedure. Because Dr. Hochstein understands the financial burden that can accompany these procedures, he offers plastic surgery financing options through CareCredit®, ALPHAEON CREDIT®, United Medical Finance, EFinancing Solutions, and Prosper Healthcare Lending.
Our office staff is happy to discuss all of your financing options with you during your consultation.
Can I have children after a Mommy Makeover?
None of the procedures included in your Mommy Makeover will prevent you from having healthy children in the future, but another pregnancy will likely impact the quality and longevity of your surgical results.
Pregnancy is what caused these contour concerns initially, and additional pregnancies will impact or reverse the results. This is why we suggest that you wait until after you are finished having children to undergo a Mommy Makeover.
How long will my results last?
The results of your Mommy Makeover will be long lasting; however, they are not necessarily permanent. You should follow a healthy lifestyle and remain at a stable weight to prolong your tight contours and perky breasts. Future pregnancies, weight gain, and the natural aging process may affect the quality of your results.
Will I need to undergo additional plastic surgery after a Mommy Makeover?
Some patients choose to undergo additional surgical procedures to target areas that were not addressed during their initial Mommy Makeover; others must undergo a revision procedure if they experience complications with their breast implants.
Breast implants are long lasting, but they are liable to develop complications like capsular contracture, implant rupture, and displacement. Breast revision may be necessary following a Mommy Makeover should an implant complication arise.
