Am I Ready for a Facelift?

Schedule A Consultation

Aging is inevitable. It is only a matter of time before we start to develop wrinkles, sagging and loose skin, and lose tone and texture in the face. All of these signs can lead to a fatigued appearance that makes people feel less confident.

It is crucial for patients to understand what procedures are available and what each of those procedures does so that they can make an informed decision to fit their needs. Patients who are just beginning to show signs of aging may be better suited for less invasive options, while other patients may need more significant surgical work for a more extensive outcome.

What Is Facelift Surgery?

A facelift surgery can help take years off your face by tightening the skin and muscles for a rejuvenated appearance. Using small incisions around the hairline, facial tissues are pulled upward, reversing the effects of time and providing smoother, younger-looking skin.

Facelift surgery can help treat:

  • Loose and sagging skin
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Deep folds
  • “Jowls” in the cheeks and jaw

Who Are the Best Facelift Candidates?

Ideal candidates for facelift surgery are in good general health, nonsmokers, and looking for a permanent solution to aging issues. Candidates are typically in their late 30s or older and have lost elasticity in their skin.

What Kind of Results and Recovery Should I Expect From a Facelift?

Recovery will take several weeks. Patients will have some bruising, swelling, and discomfort right after the procedure, but Dr. Hochstein will prescribe you pain medication to effectively manage these symptoms.

You will need to rest your head in an elevated position for the first week. By this time, most of the swelling should begin to subside. You will also need to avoid strenuous activity or exercise for at least two to three weeks. By six weeks, most patients will be fully recovered.

Results from a facelift are permanent and last several years. Patients looking for a more durable method may prefer a facelift over other techniques that would require repeated treatments.

What Is Light Rejuvenation?

Another option for patients who are not yet ready for a facelift is broadband light rejuvenation, or BBL. This treatment uses various wavelengths of light to penetrate the skin, eliminating damage and promoting new skin regeneration.

BBL treatments can help treat:

  • Acne and acne scars
  • Sun damage
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Wrinkles
  • Damaged tissue

Treatments are typically gentle, take very little time, and require minimal downtime following the procedure. Most patients are able to resume normal activities as soon as they leave the office. BBL treatments will likely need to be repeated several times, in intervals, to produce the best results.

BBL treatments can offer dramatic improvements to skin texture, tone, and appearance. Results are typically maintained with two or three yearly treatments, preventing overexposure and keeping a youthful glow in your skin.

The options available to reduce signs of aging and rejuvenate appearance can seem daunting, and patients often don’t know where to start. Luckily, you can schedule a consultation with Dr. Hochstein to help you decide which option is best suited for your needs.
