Healthy skin can make a big statement about someone’s overall health. Our skin is the largest organ in our body; however, we don’t always show it the love and attention it deserves. Taking better care of your skin doesn’t have to be a huge commitment. Instead, try out some of these simple habits to start seeing an improvement in your skin.

1. Drink Plenty of Water

This is the simplest habit to pick up. Water has no calories, is readily available, and tends to be inexpensive. Since water makes up 64 percent of your skin (our largest organ), taking in adequate amounts is essential. While some skin care products may be able to help with skin hydration, their effects will be far less without the water intake to supplement it.

Water is needed to keep your skin elastic, moisturized, and supple. To maintain healthy skin, try to drink at least 64 ounces, or one gallon of water, per day.

2. Exfoliate

Dead layers of skin can cause various skin issues, such as dullness, clogged pores, and acne. Exfoliating once or twice a week can significantly improve the skin’s appearance by removing these dead skin cells. Exfoliation can help to :

  • Cleanse blocked pores
  • Prevent acne
  • Stimulate collagen production
  • Correct uneven skin tone
  • Improve the performance of skin care products

3. Try Supplementing Collagen

Collagen is vital for maintaining the youthful appearance of the skin. This naturally occurring protein exists in your connective tissues and bones and is responsible for their strength and suppleness.

As you get older, your body produces less collagen, which leads to skin laxity and wrinkles. If you have a collagen deficiency, collagen supplements (including vitamins and powder) may be able to restore some of this vital protein.

4. Stick to a Healthy Skin Diet

There are plenty of healthy foods that contain essential vitamins and nutrients to help keep your skin healthy from the inside out. Some healthy skin foods include:

  • Fatty fish
  • Lemon
  • Beans
  • Avocado
  • Soy
  • Dark chocolate
  • Green tea

The above food contains healthy fats, proteins, and vitamins that help your body maintain its elasticity, produce collagen, and eliminate toxins.

5. Pamper Yourself With Professional Facials

A facial at a professional MedSpa is both a way to pamper yourself and a way to improve the health of your skin. A facial can help you to achieve more drastic results that may not be achievable at home. Going to a professional for a facial can also reduce the risk of damaging your skin further. For example, extractions and deep exfoliation performed by a licensed professional is less likely to produce scars or micro-tears on the skin that may be more common with at-home treatments. When performed correctly, a MedSpa facial can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, correct hyperpigmentation, and improve skin texture.
