BOTOX® for cosmetic and aesthetic applications has been highly talked about and used successfully in the field of cosmetic enhancement and facial rejuvenation. Technically called “onabotulinumtoxinA,” BOTOX® Cosmetic can remove years of aging from the appearance of your face in a procedure that takes a matter of minutes. Unlike cosmetic surgery, BOTOX® treatments are safe and non-invasive. BOTOX® is at the forefront of the ever-evolving field of non-surgical aesthetic enhancements and is available at Dr. Hochstein’s Miami, FL practice.
The goal of BOTOX® Cosmetic is to create a naturally youthful appearance. Wrinkles, unfortunately, are in everyone’s future. As our facial muscles move to create expressions, they cause creases in the skin. Unfortunately, when these creases are left untreated over the years, they can create wrinkles and indentations that remain in the skin even when the face is relaxed. One way to counteract this problem is with the use of BOTOX® Cosmetic to treat the root cause of wrinkles. BOTOX® relaxes the muscles and restricts their movement, which prevents them from creating creases. By relaxing the targeted facial muscles with BOTOX® injections, you are able to provide the skin with a much-needed “vacation” from the creases. This allows for the skin to even out and become more youthful and smooth.
At the plastic surgery practice of Dr. Leonard Hochstein in Miami, Florida, BOTOX® injections are used to create youthful, wrinkle-free appearances for our patients. The targeted muscles are injected with BOTOX® to prevent them from contracting and creasing the skin, hence slowing down the aging process and keeping wrinkles at bay. The depth of your wrinkles and indentations will determine how many treatments will be needed in order to correct and lift them. Dr. Hochstein’s physician assistant is highly trained and specializes in BOTOX® Cosmetic injections, and the friendly staff is dedicated to meeting any and all of your needs. Depending on the condition of your skin and the severity of your wrinkles, Dr. Hochstein may recommend that other treatment options be combined with BOTOX® in order to achieve complete facial rejuvenation, such as derma fillers (e.g., Juvederm® or Radiesse®), peels (e.g., Illuminize Peel®, TCA, or Phenol), or plastic surgery.

Questions & Answers
How long does BOTOX® last?
BOTOX® can last anywhere from three to four months, although some can go longer before needing repeat treatments. Some factors that can affect the longevity of your injections include your body’s metabolism of the toxin and the strength of your muscles. Because of this, people with stronger muscles may need more BOTOX® to achieve the desired results. Once patients start receiving BOTOX® injections on a regular basis, they may begin to notice that they can go longer before requiring touch-up treatments to maintain their wrinkle-free appearance.
Are BOTOX® injections addictive?
BOTOX® is absolutely not addictive, but once patients begin treatments they often become accustomed to their youthful appearance and wish to maintain their look with repeat injections. Because BOTOX® does not provide permanent results, if touch-up treatments are not carried out, wrinkles may reappear and the face will revert back to its normal state. Maintaining a consistent schedule of treatments is always recommended for the best results. Dr. Hochstein finds that most patients love their faces and their wrinkle-free skin after receiving BOTOX® injections.
How long does BOTOX® take to work?
BOTOX® injections take anywhere from three to seven days to take full effect. If after about seven days you are not satisfied with your results, please contact the office so you can schedule a meeting with the doctor to see if more BOTOX® is needed in order to achieve your desired look.
How much BOTOX® will I need?
As we mentioned before, each patient is different and has distinct goals with BOTOX® injections. For this reason, it is most beneficial for you to consistently see the same expert injector for every treatment. By seeing your provider routinely (every three to four months), you can work with them to identify areas of stronger muscles and weaker muscles to better determine the amount of BOTOX® needed for each muscle. Sometimes more or less units may need to be injected into specific areas in order to achieve your desired results.
Severe Primary Axillary Hyperhidrosis (Severe Underarm Sweating)
Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for a condition that causes severe sweating. Patients with hyperhidrosis may sweat up to 4 or 5 times more than normal, far exceeding what is needed to regulate body temperature. Severe underarm sweating may be exacerbated by stress, emotion, or exercise, but it often occurs spontaneously. BOTOX® injections are a minimally invasive treatment approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2004 to treat the symptoms of severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis when topical medicines do not work well enough in adults 18 years and older. The effects of treatment are temporary, lasting approximately 6 to 7 months, and treatment is often covered by insurance. BOTOX® is only approved to treat sweating in the armpits; it is not known whether BOTOX® is safe or effective for treating severe sweating anywhere else.
